Mahendra singh Dhoni is rated one of the most successful captain of India cricket Team in recent times. He won many series and made his name propel to the new heights in world of cricket. He added another gem in his crown when India team won the all important world cup in 2011, under his captaincy. Things were falling in right place for Indian cricket team before they came to England to play 5 test matches, 1 T20 match and 5 One day international matches. Neither Indian team and nor Indian fan had thought the outcome of the English tour will be such a horrendous one. The Indian team remained winless. They lost 4-0 (whitewash) in test matches, 1-0 in T20, and 3-0 in ODI’s, 1st ODI washed out and 4th ODI, result was declared as tied by D/L method. The world champions got a hammering just because they took this English trip very easily, where as England was well prepared to face the Indian team. MSD had commented that reason for his team loss was Injuries to key players and bad luck. I don’t know why Dhoni is making such comments, India team always boosted about their bench strength, but what happened to that bench strength in England, or Dhoni was just riding his lady luck to win his matches before this English tour. The Batting Postmortem: Apart from Sachin tendulkar, Dravid, Sehwag, Gambhir and laxman, India batting lineup is completely exposed. The youngsters don’t have confidence to play and perform consistently at International. Our BCCI is just making money by making players play around the year without giving any proper rest. BCCI is not helping the cause of youngster by investing into a dedicated schedule for every player. Talent like Yusuf Pathan is biggest example of BCCI wrong policies. BCCI should identify players and their playing style to invest time and money on them to make them specialist in that version of the game. The Playing eleven Selection Postmortem: India tour to England saw total downfall of Dhoni and his men. Dhoni didn’t pick his team on the merit and fitness of the player. Why R.P Singh was picked in the team when he was out of cricket for more than a year. Why Raina was given chance in test matches ahead of Kholi when Raina was not able to score any runs. Why Irfan Pathan was not called back into the side. Why Indian fastest bowler was made to sit in all the ODI matches, while bowlers like R.P Singh were leaking runs. The answer is simple; Dhoni was favoring his best friends R.P Singh and Raina, instead of thinking how to win a match with available team. Mr. Dhoni, let me remind you, that you are the Captain of India cricket team, people worship you as god and you have no right to play with the emotion of the people of India, by favoring your friends. Indian team selectors open your eyes and see what your captain is doing, and take action before India slum down further in the world Ranking. Varun Aaron was the lethal weapon for India cricket team, who could have given the taste of their own medicine to English players, but Dhoni just ignored him. The Bowling Postmortem: I fail to understand why India cannot produce lethal fast bowler who can just bowl fast to send terror down the spin of the opposition batsman. Since my playing days I have seen coaches of cricket camps concentrating hard to train batsmen, and very few tips are given to blowers. If a bowler is trying to work on his bouncer then the coach will scold him and say to bowl driving length so that batsmen can learn to play short on front foot. Why coaches forget that a cricketers should know how to play back foot short also. Bowlers should be given licenses to bowl fast and any length, then only aggression will come in our bowlers to tear apart any opposition batting lineup. The fitness Postmortem: I think Indian team thought all is won after winning the world cup, but they forgot that retaining the number one slot is tougher than reaching to that position. Indian team was not at all prepared for English tour. Player like Zaheer and Harbhajan were not match fit. Sehwag was roped in to England to rescue the team but was not fit too. The players seemed to have forgotten the basic formulae of training, that for playing a 5 day test match, one should train for 50 days to get that kind of stamina and fitness to sustain 5 days of a test match. This England tour was an eye opener for Dhoni and his men, if they are serious about playing for their mother land, like our hockey players then Dhoni should stop favoring his friends and give a fair thought to the team selection process and BCCI should schedule the cricketing calendar with keeping the player rest time in mind.
